In June 2018 Parliamentary Review invited Angloslav International to act as a representative for 2018/2019 and to share our best practice as a learning tool to individuals within the public and private education sector. Development of this project drew our attention to the whole period of our operation since the company was established back in 1993 as a Guardianship agency for international students.
For over two decades, our team has helped nurture the next generation. Initially known as AngloSlav Education, the company is now named Scion Mastery to better reflect our approach. A scion is an inheritor, not of wealth, but of learning – each of our international students embraces their responsibility to achieve the best possible education and harness their innate ability.
We work with families from Russia, Europe, the Middle East and North and South America, giving both parents and students the peace of mind that their educational and personal development needs are being met. With a skilled and dedicated team, Scion Mastery offers professional and diligent support in negotiating the intricacies of the British school and university system, and in making sure students reach their full potential.

University Selective Entry Training (UNISET)
Although academic grades remain essential for admission to degree courses, universities are also increasingly considering the personality and extra-curricular activities of students, together with what they will contribute to university life.
A crucial element for successful university admission is an excellent personal statement and a confident interview, allowing students to convey their passion, intelligence and individuality. Scion Mastery exclusively organises the University Selective Entry Training (UNISET) residential weekend each September. Using stimulating and thought-provoking exercises to improve these skills in advance of university application deadlines, Scion Mastery also offers advice on how to navigate the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).
The weekend focuses on three aspects of the admissions process:
For candidates wishing to enter the first year of secondary education (Year 7) applications should be made a year prior to entry (Year 6). Enrolment examinations (January, Year 6) will be required in Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning.
GCSE courses are high pressure and academically rigorous, and grades achieved remain a life-long indicator of your child’s ability and performance in their chosen subjects.
Therefore, it is best for them to enter school in Year 9, so they can fully adjust to their new environment, choose their subjects and prepare for exams at the end of Year 11. Applications for Year 9 Entry are made in the beginning of Year 8.
For students hoping to join a school to sit A-Level exams, entry to Sixth Form (Year 12) will depend heavily on GCSE results. If they are an international student, the respective equivalent to GCSEs will be required. Applications to Sixth Form are made at the beginning of Year 11.
Selective School Placement
The majority of fee-paying independent schools and non-fee-paying grammar schools in Britain have a competitive admissions process. In secondary education, this process commonly has three stages known as 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Sixth Form) Entry. Applications for places should be made one to three years prior to entry, with tests run a year before. However, as a general rule, it is recommended to apply as early as possible, and each school will have their own enrolment system meaning dates may vary. For instance, Eton College requires children to be registered before they are 10 years and 6 months old.
While it is possible to enter schools at any time, Scion Mastery would advocate joining at the stages indicated. This allows your child time to acclimatise to their new environment, hone their language skills if required, and adjust to the GCSE or A-Level course. There is some flexibility in the admission process for international students. For instance, starting Year 9 at the age of 14, would allow more time to learn the language before beginning the GCSE course.
Scion Mastery can advise on every step of an admissions process that can initially appear daunting.
After passing our academic assessment and interview with our advisors while in your home country Scion Mastery will offer you five to ten schools that we feel will suit your ambitions and abilities. We suggest choosing three or four schools from this list and can advise on your choices. We will work with those schools and determine the chances of your child being offered a place. We will organise school visits, entry tests and interviews.
Once you have selected the school that best suits your child, Scion Mastery can help prepare for entrance exams and interviews. These usually occur from November to January before Year 9 and cover verbal and non-verbal reasoning, maths and English, followed by interviews for successful applicants. Many establishments, such as Eton College and Westminster School, also use their own individually designed aptitude tests. For A-Level and International Baccalaureate (IB) entry subject specific entry tests may be set in order to evaluate the ability of a student to cope with the rigour of an A-Level programme. Depending on the test results and students’ career choices, schools may advise on changing areas of study.
The initial consultation with the leading Career Strategist is required prior the Entry process to identify students’ needs and to prepare the trajectory of our future work together.
UNISET has a marked effect on results, with those who attended in Year 11 and Year 12 achieving significantly improved grades. Attending UNISET at this early stage in their academic career drives students to analyse what they want from university and their future professional career. UNISET compels students to see clearly the impact of their grades on both university entry and on their future job prospects.

University Entrance (Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes)
Scion Mastery can advise on which undergraduate and postgraduate course might be suitable for your experience and ability. It is important to be aware of the range and variety of degree courses, and how your choice can influence your subsequent career path.
Be it a BA, BSc or Master’s Degree, Scion Mastery can guide you through the process of applying for university through the UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) system, with additional advice on Oxbridge applications, composing personal statements and conducting mock interviews in preparation for university entrance.
